Indigenous Scholarships now open
17 Dec 18
After receiving an overwhelming number of applications for our first ever Indigenous Scholarship program, we are excited to launch an even bigger program that expands both the value and number of scholarships available in 2019.
The 2018 Indigenous Scholarship program received more than 100 applications and celebrated four outstanding individuals who showed great dedication to their studies and a promise to go on and achieve great things in their lives and in their communities.
To assist more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students’ study in 2019, we have doubled the program which will now offer $60,000. We have increased the number of scholarships available in category one to two scholarships both valued at $10,000 and introduced a fourth category to cater to study towards an apprenticeship or traineeship at TAFE or a Registered Training Organisation.
The four categories are:
- Category one: 2 x $10,000 to study at any Australian university
- Category two: 1 x $10,000 to study at the University of Wollongong
- Category three: 2 x $5,000 to study at TAFE
- Category four: 4 x $5,000 to study towards an apprenticeship or traineeship at TAFE or a Registered Training Organisation
With a lack of financial support cited as the most significant barrier to Indigenous students completing their studies according to the Prime Minister’s 2018 Closing the Gap report, we are excited to again be offering these scholarships.
By offering financial support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, we help close the educational gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians and support Indigenous people to reach their study goals and set themselves on a path for a successful career.
Scholarship applications close at midnight on 29 January 2019. For further information, including eligibility, frequently asked questions and key days, Everything you need to apply, including eligibility, frequently asked questions and key dates, visit our website by clicking here.
